Maliz Beams is chief executive officer of ING U.S. Retirement Solutions, one of the largest providers of retirement plans, products and services in the United States. In her role, Beams is responsible for strategy and operation of a retirement business that meets the evolving needs of both institutional and individual customers. She is focused on growing ING U.S.'s existing defined contribution business while building relationships with investors who seek retirement support and guidance after they transition from their workplace plans.
Beams joined ING in 2011 with 30 years of diverse experience in the financial services industry, spanning institutional, high-networth and retail markets across asset management, retirement and banking sectors. Prior to ING, Beams served as president and CEO of TIAA-CREF’s Individual and Institutional Services LLC, helping those businesses deliver six consecutive years of record growth and client retention. While at TIAA-CREF, she founded the Wealth Management business and re-launched IRAs, insurance products and private asset management, all with substantial growth. In addition to TIAA-CREF, Beams has held leadership roles at Zurich Scudder Investments, Fleet Financial, American Express and Citibank.
Beams received a B.A. in English from Boston College and an M.B.A. in marketing and finance from Columbia University. Among other accomplishments and recognitions, Beams was named by American Banker as one of “The 25 Most Powerful Women in Finance” in 2008, 2009 and 2012, and has also been listed on Who’s Who of American Women. She was also recognized by The 401kWire as one of the “100 Most Influential People in Defined Contribution” for 2012. Beams is a board member of the Insured Retirement Institute.
