ING Run For Something Better / Orange Laces
ING wants to help people achieve not just financial fitness, but physical fitness as well. We work with local communities to create school-based running and fitness programs, and distribute grants through the ING Run For Something Better Awards. These community partnerships, which we call the ING Run for Something Better, introduce young people to the joys and challenges of running and show kids how exercise can help achieve good health.
ING Run For Something Better has three core components:
- Final Mile Race Days -- These culminating events are in association with certain ING U.S.-sponsored marathons and ING KiDS ROCK events. Participating students typically run a half or full marathon in the weeks leading up to these races, which feature a "final mile run", medals, t-shirts, celebrity appearances and, of course, orange laces!
- The Orange Laces Campaign -- ING U.S. created a special campaign to encourage others to support the cause by making their own contribution. When someone donates $10 or more to ING Run For Something Better, ING U.S. will give them a special pair of orange shoelaces as a token of appreciation to show that they are “tied” to supporting kids fitness. One hundred percent of each donation goes directly to the beneficiary ING Run For Something Better programs.
- School Grant Program -- In partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, ING U.S. provides a minimum of 50 schools from across the nation grants up to $2,500 to support an existing school-based running program or to start a new one.
