Kids Race Celebrates Ten Years Running, Rebranded as ING KiDS ROCK
For 10 years, thousands of children in Nashville have reveled in the excitement of the start line and the pride of the finish line. The 10th annual ING KiDS ROCK Nashville, previously known as the YMCA Country Music Kids’ Marathon, has introduced the fun of fitness and running to kids at a time when poor nutrition and a widespread lack of exercise threatens the health of an entire generation.
Aimed at raising awareness of childhood obesity, the non-timed, non-competitive event for kids in kindergarten through seventh grade is on Friday, April 29, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans. Over 4,700 kids will take part in the one-mile fun run, with all participants encouraged to train by completing a cumulative marathon program. The event sold out more than three months in advance.
ING has partnered with the Competitor Group, Inc., as the title sponsor of seven KiDS ROCK events across the country, making it one of the largest kids’ running series. ING KiDS Rock is supported by the ING Run For Something Better®, ING’s charity that champions running and fitness programs in schools across the country.

Over the past decade, more than 23,000 children have participated in the Nashville event, creating a long-standing tradition that has garnered the support of local schools, businesses and community leaders. At this year’s race, country music stars Diamond Rio, Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry, and U.S. Olympian and Nissan ‘Master’ Ryan Hall will cheer on the kids at the finish line. Mayor Karl Dean of Nashville will also participate, along with U.S. Olympian and 1983 New York City Marathon Champion Rod Dixon, who serves as a spokesman for the event.

The nationwide program, supported by the ING Run For Something Better charity, is held in conjunction with the Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon presented by Nissan and is also an official advocate of the “President’s Challenge” and partner of the “Let’s Move!” initiative. ING KiDS ROCK is part of a nationwide push to improve the health and exercise habits of America’s youth.
